- How did the collaboration with HK begin?
CHEP is the world leader in pallet rental and management services. We started working with HK on export transport lines between France and Spain: quite large volumes for us. Later, we learned that HK also had an emergency services business. We are sometimes interested in critical deliveries, for strategic customers or for ourselves. They helped us out with this type of flow. Gradually, our two modes of operation - our logistics structure and HK's - came into line with each other, enabling us to work well together! Since then, we've been working even more closely together, since they also do national transport. HK also provided us with solutions during periods of tension in the French transport market, notably in 2008.
- What qualities do you retain from HK?
At CHEP, we have extremely stringent specifications. Our business demands impeccable quality in delivery, and we consider this to be part of our service: we're No. 1 in the rental of handling equipment, and our quality must set the standard in the market. We need service providers who are themselves beyond reproach. HK's first quality is the quality of its operations, a key concept in transport. This requires perfect knowledge of our business and its particularities. Quality of operation means a warm welcome, responsiveness, a network of service providers, quality of transpor, prices in line with the market, and the people who make it up. Our contact at HK knows our business, our people and our products. That's what I look for in all my service providers: I want a dedicated, responsive and available contact. That's what I have today with HK.
- And the second quality?
Their second great quality is their flexibility and ability to find solutions. Today, building a transport plan is a complex exercise, and we need suppliers who can find solutions no matter how complex the project. HK belongs to this category of strategic suppliers. They are one of our top 10 suppliers. Today, they are a supplier with the capacity to continue to grow with us, to structure themselves with us and to move forward in the right direction.
